Audrey Mabee

Audrey Mabee is an alumnus of what was called The Alberta College of Art and Design and is now the Alberta University of the Arts. She was a member of the Board of Governors and has served as the Acting President of the institution. She has been a member of numerous boards, juries and foundations and was the art teacher at Strathcona Boys School for many years. She also taught at the Calgary Creative School, taught Saturday morning classes at ACAD as well as after school and night classes for the City of Calgary. For over 23 years she co-owned the Craft, a small shop in Calgary that focused on the promotion and sale of Alberta pottery and other fine quality handmade Canadian items.

Audrey’s paintings, usually figurative, are oil on canvas. The core of the work focuses on design, colour and interesting use of negative spaces. The images develop out of the process and are not fully conceived at the outset…they usually have a small unexpected “twist”.

She has exhibited her work in galleries since the late 1980’s, with representation in Calgary, Vancouver, San Francisco, Hawaii, Edmonton and Saskatoon.

Significant commissions for private and commercial corporations include Starbucks, A & W, the Calgary Foundation and the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Her work is included in the collection of the Alberta Art Foundation.
