  Morris Ertman  

Morris Ertman
2010 is Mr. Ertman’s ninth season as the Artistic Director of Alberta’s own Rosebud Theatre. Morris has worked extensively in Canada as a director, designer and playwright with close to two hundred theatrical productions to his credit. Highlights include the direction of Rosebud Theatre’s Man of La Mancha, Mary’s Wedding, Fiddler on the Roof, Damien, On Golden Pond, Talley’s Folly, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat; Vancouver Pacific Theatre’s acclaimed productions of Espresso (recipient of seven Jessie Richardson Award nominations, including Best Production and Critics Choice for Most Innovative Production), “MASTER HAROLD”…and the Boys (which won two Jessie Richardson Awards as well as being nominated for Best Production and Best Direction), The Quarrel, St. Joan, Cotton Patch Gospel (three Jessie Richardson Award nominations, including Outstanding Direction) and the premiere of Ron Reed’s Chalmers award-winning play The Book of the Dragon. He has also worked with Rosebud Theatre’s close cousin on Vancouver Island - Chemainus Theatre. Highlights there include An L.M. Montgomery Christmas, Christmas on the Air, The Fantastiks and A Christmas Carol. He has directed and/or designed for Vancouver Opera, Mirvish Productions, The Canadian Opera Company, Edmonton Opera, The Stratford Festival, The National Arts Centre, Manitoba Theatre Centre, The Citadel Theatre and The Blyth Festival, and most recently directed the debut of Rosebud’s own Lucia Frangione’s ParadiseGarden at the Arts Club Theatre in Vancouver. He is also responsible for the conception, writing (with Ron Reed) and direction of the musical Tent Meeting (four Dora Mavor Moore nominations including Best New Musical and Best Production and an Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award nomination for Outstanding Musical). The show has been produced in numerous theatres in the US and Canada. Morris is presently writing the Tent Meeting screenplay in preparation for the film. Mr. Ertman is the recipient of nine Sterling Awards and a Dora Award for the Canadian Opera Company’s Beatrice et Benedict. He is also named in
Theatre 100, a publication of 100 Alberta artists who have made a noteworthy contribution to Alberta's theatre in the last century.   

Morris resides in Millet and Rosebud with Joanne, his son Jesse, with frequent visits from daughter Holly, son Luke and daughter-in-law Trina.

  Aaron Krogman  

Aaron Krogman

Aaron Krogman is an RSA Alumni, and lives somewhere between Rosebud, Calgary and Red Deer. Selected credits: Motel in Fiddler on the Roof, Dylan Thomas in Christmas in Wales, Danny Frank in Christmas on the Air (Rosebud Theatre), Bert Taylor in Soldier's Heart (Loudly Whispered Theatre), and the Narrator in For The Pleasure of Seeing Her Again (Leapkrog Productions). He is very excited to be part of 2011 at Rosebud Theatre. Thanks to his family for their support. 
 
  Becky Halterman  

Becky Halterman
Becky is a graduate of RSA and is grateful for the opportunity to come back to help create a little bit of magic on these shows and enjoy the loving community of Rosebud. Becky has done many light designs for Rosebud Theatre and Rosebud student projects. Some of her favourites include Cotton Patch Gospel, Godspell, Diviners, Damien, Mary's Wedding and The Road to Mecca. Becky currently lives in St. Albert where she keeps very busy with her husband Tyler and their four boys-Xavier, Sebastian, Dominic and Immanuel as well as working as a doula or birth companion.

    Bill Hamm
Bill Hamm has been the Music Director Rosebud School of the Arts and Rosebud Theatre since 1989. He conducts choirs, teaches voice and speech classes, and has directed the music for numerous shows including Cotton Patch Gospel, Man of La Mancha, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Godspell, and Fiddler on the roof. A highlight of Bill’s life is singing and socializing with the Canadian Chamber Choir. Bill and his wife Renita have four children and two grandchildren. Bill enjoys running, mountain biking, hockey, and putzing around the yard.

  Brad G. Graham   Brad G. Graham
Since 1999, Brad has worked in most of Rosebud Theatre’s production areas. He is currently the Production Stage Manager, Head of Props, and technical theatre instructor for RSA. He trained in ATP’s Jr. Apprenticeship Program and Red Deer College’s Theatre Technology Program. Some of Brad’s favourite selected credits include Salt-Water Moon by David French, The Voice of the Prairie by John Olive, Billy Bishop Goes to War by John Gray & Eric Peterson and The Canadian Badlands Passion Play, where he is on the Board of Directors. Brad thanks his amazing wife, GW, and his fantastic family for their love and support.

    Byron Linsey
Byron is pleased to be returning to theatre work after many years away. A graduate of Studio 58 and a founding member of Pacific Theatre, Byron spent many years working in the film industry in Vancouver and for the past ten years as a self employed carpenter in Edmonton. He and his family are looking forward to beginning a new adventure in Rosebud.
   

Cheryl Daugherty
Cheryl enjoys painting, and feels very blessed to be part of the Rosebud Theatre. Past scenic painting credits include Man of La Mancha, We Won’t Pay! We Won’t Pay!, The Road to Mecca and Oliver! Cheryl lives in Rosebud with her husband Bill their daughter Emmy, and dog Homer, with frequent visits from son, Max who sometimes thinks he lives there too. “Enjoy the show!”

 
                 
  David Snider - Resident Artist, Rosebud Theatre   David Snider
This is David’s fifth season at Rosebud Theatre, and he is grateful for his life and work in this special place. Previous roles include: Archibald Craven in The Secret Garden, Don Quixote/Cervantes in The Man of La Mancha, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, George in Tent Meeting, Jesus for the 2007 Canadian Badlands Passion Play, and Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor™ Dreamcoat. Before Rosebud, he spent eight years with Chemainus Theatre Festival on Vancouver Island. David received his M.F.A. in Acting from the University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana. Special thanks to Jeany, Donovan and Weston.

  Jeanette 'Jette' Brown - Resident Artist, Rosebud Theatre  

Jeanette "Jette" Brown
Theatre is in Jette’s blood having grown up near London, England and lived in Stratford-on-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace. During Jette’s career she has been a teacher, principal, lecturer, stage manager, director, designer and costumer. She has over 70 production credits, favorites being Man of La Mancha, Much Ado About Nothing, and Kiss Me Kate. Jette has worked for individuals, schools and organizations such as the English Civil War Society, the Red Deer Chamber Singers, Strathmore theatre Players’ Guild, The Canadian Badlands Passion Play and Canadian Badlands Summer School, Rosebud Theatre and Rosebud School of the Arts. She is delighted to be working in Rosebud’s creative environment.

 
                 
    Jeany Van Meltebeke
Jeany is a resident artist with Rosebud Theatre, and an instructor for Rosebud School of the Arts in Acting, Drama Ministry, and Faith and Art. Prior to Rosebud, Jeany worked in theatres in Illinois, Oregon, Wisconsin, Georgia, and eight years with Chemainus Theatre Festival on Vancouver Island, BC. Career highlights include lead roles in Hello Dolly!, Lettice and Lovage, Macbeth, The Heidi Chronicles, Assassins, A Man For All Seasons, King Lear, and I Do! I Do! Jeany is also excited to work with the Canadian Badlands Passion Play this summer as their crowd director.

Jerod Fahlman
Jerod is proud to be a part of this extraordinary company. This is his third season as Technical Director here and he is excited about the productions we have for you this year. In the past he has been privileged to work for several excellent theatre companies, including Keyano College in Fort McMurray, Calgary's Alberta Theatre Projects, Regina's Globe Theatre and Vancouver's Art's Club.

    Karl Sine
Karl works as an actor,Karl is an Actor, Director, and Fight Director. This year for Rosebud he will be directing Jake and the Kid: Prairie Seasons and playing the role of Edward in Rosebud’s fall production of Queen Milli of Galt.Some of Karl’s favorite Rosebud Theatre credits include: OLIVER!, Mary’s Wedding, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Karl will also be appearing in Theatre Calgary’s production of Much Ado About Nothing. Karl wishes to thank the two beautiful girls in his life, Lindsey and Olivia, without whom he would not be able to do what he loves doing!

    Leah T. Hearne
Leah’s selected acting credits include Christmas in Wales, Fiddler on the Roof, The Good Doctor, The Foreigner, The Curious Savage, ‘night Mother, and Steel Magnolias. Behind the scenes last year as the director of Woza Albert! , Leah will be found on stage in 2011 as Miss Virenda Granet de la Rue in A Bright Particular Star. A co-writer of both St. Nick’s Magical Mystical Mystery Tour and The Giant’s Heart, she is currently working on the second draft of her first novel, RATS! Leah is grateful for this magical community and the freedom to create art through story.

  Mark Lewandowski   Mark Lewandowski
Almost 22 years, and Mark is still in Rosebud. Starting as an actor and musician, he now is most often behind the scene as production manager or director (and sometimes both). Selected directing credits: Billy Bishop Goes to War, Christmas on the Air (Rosebud Theatre); The Triumph of Love (Rosebud School of the Arts); Perchance to Dream? (Sloughfoot Stubble Jumpers), The Last Five Years (Earthen Vessel Creations); Craving (Fire Exit Theatre); You Are Here (Shramm-a-lam Productions). He lives in Rosebud with his wife, two children and a newly renovated kitchen.

Mike has been working in Rosebud for 11 years now. Recent Rosebud Productions include; Fiddler on the Roof, A Christmas in Wales, and Oliver! Mike's really excited about being a part of the 2011 season, he hopes you'll enjoy it too.

  Nathan Schmidt   Nathan Schmidt
Nathan is currently a Resident Acting Company Member with Rosebud Theatre as well as the Head of Acting for Rosebud School of the Arts. Selected theatre credits include Jacob Kahn/Aryeh Lev in My Name is Asher Lev (Pacific Theatre), Chaim Kovler in The Quarrel (Midnight Theatre Collective); Lysander in A Midsummer Nights Dream and Rolph in The Sound of Music (Chemainus Theatre); Matt Friedman in Talley’s Folly, Father Damien in Damien, the Fiddler in Fiddler on the Roof and the oldest man in the world Daddy Sherry in The Kite (Rosebud Theatre). Nathan also works as a musician and fight director. Thank you for your support of Rosebud Theatre and the work we do.

Norma Roth
Norma is very pleased to be back in Rosebud permanently. No more degrees for awhile. Look for her in the classroom, recruiting new students and designing for the upcoming season. Past credits include costume designs for Mary’s Wedding, Godspell, The Voice of the Prairie, Carpenter’s Blues and Angel News, Life History of the African Elephant, Cariboo Magi and Shadowlands for Rosebud Theatre. Paul Zacharias
Paul is excited to be a part of Rosebud Theatre's 2011 season, as Sound Designer for Jake & the Kid: Prairie Seasons. He lives in Rosebud with his wife Heather and their budgie Chaucer. Paul enjoys meeting friends new and old while singing and playing guitar around tables at the Mercantile; if you see him say hi! Production credits include: The Diary of Adam and Eve, Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog, Ophelia's Hamlet and The Giant's Heart. He operates “DaMerle Studios”, recording music for “up and coming” artists. Much thanks and love to his beautiful wife and both their families.

    Stephen Waldschmidt
Stephen is a freelance actor, director, designer and graphic artist. Acting credits: A Christmas in Wales and Tent Meeting (Rosebud Theatre), Jesus in The Canadian Badlands Passion Play and Chickens (Pacific Theatre). Directing credits: Hockey Dad: A Play in 3 Periods (burnt thicket theatre, which he co-created with James Popoff), A Rattling Sound and Match (Pacific Theatre). Scenic design credits: Lettice & Lovage, Christmas on the Air and Damien (Rosebud Theatre), The Quarrel (Midnight Theatre Collective) and Grace (Pacific Theatre). Dale Marushy
Dale is glad to be back in the program having missed out on the fun in 2010. Over the previous six seasons, Dale designed over 18 productions produced by Rosebud students, Rosebud School of the Arts and Rosebud Theatre. Previous designs for Rosebud Theatre include Man of La Mancha, On Golden Pond, Talley’s Folly,
Trying and Holy Mo. Other credits include The 39 Steps, Strindberg’s Easter (Chemainus Theatre Festival), Shadowlands and You Can’t Take it With You (Pacific Theatre). Dale would like to thank his wife for her dedicated love and support. Dale is a member of Associated Designers of Canada.

Deanne Bertsch
Deanne has lived in and around Rosebud for the past 15 years.  She has choreographed several shows for Rosebud Theatre including Godspell, Man of La Mancha and The Secret Garden. Last summer she appeared as Nancy in Oliver!. Deanne teaches dance for Rosebud School of the Arts and teaches drama and dance at Strathmore High School.

Deborah Lawton
Deborah Lawton Deborah considers Rosebud her second home and is honored to be a part of the 2011 season! Selected design credits include Troy Women (Rosebud School of The Arts), God Committee and Halo (Fire Exit). Since 1999, Deborah has worked for The Canadian
Badlands Passion Play in the wardrobe department as Head of Wardrobe, assistant designer and since 2005 production designer. Deborah also teaches senior high drama and art at Airdrie Koinonia Christian School. This is Deborah’s first time designing for the
Rosebud

    Glenda Warkentin
After a year-and-a-half of working in other theatre venues across Alberta, Glenda is delighted to be back on the Opera House stage. Her recent credits include Marta in She Has A Name (Burnt Thicket Theatre), Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing (Primestock
Theatre) and Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Theatre Prospero). Selected Rosebud Theatre credits:

Justin Born
Justin is quite happy to have a hand at stage managing once again at the Rosebud Opera House. Justin
is a recent graduate of Rosebud School of the Arts. Some previous credits include The Road to Mecca,
Mary’s Wedding (Rosebud Theatre) and The Canadian Badlands Passion Play. Justin is excited that you are here, and he thinks you should be too.

Luke Ertman
Bachelor Of Music, University Of Alberta. Selected theatre credits: Rosebud Theater's productions of Talley’s Folly, The Good Doctor, The Quarrel, Trying, Lettuce & Lovage, Confessions of a Paperboy, Mary’s Wedding and The Road to Mecca; The Arts Club's production of Paradise Garden; Pacific Theater's productions of The Hungary Season, The Quarrel, The Woodsman, Holy Mo, and My Name is Asher Lev; and productions of A Christmas Carol, Romeo and Juliet, Pinocchio and The Wizard of Oz. Luke is also involved with the group Fools Tongue. They have a commercial recording under their belt, have toured Western Canada, and received international air time.

Lyle Penner
Lyle has been a part of the Rosebud community for
many years. A graduate during the formative years
in RSA history, he worked on and off the stage with some of its early pioneers. Some of his fondest memories include working in the kitchen and dining room. You may remember Lyle performing in past shows such as As You Like It, The Diary of Anne Frank and Skinflint. He also directed Memories of a Christmas Ornament.
Lyle maintains a position with Parks Canada and
recently performed the role of David Thompson at the
Whistler Theatre in Jasper.

Marie Russell
“What? I’m playing a mom who knows everything?” Marie is a freelance actor, singer/songwriter and mom-who-knows-everything. She’s wife to Jay and a mother of two great girls here in Rosebud.
This year, besides her role as Mrs. Milroy in Queen
Milli of Galt, she’ll be working away at her own
CD at DaMerle Studios with the indefatigable
Paul Zacharias, and performing in Theatre Shh!’s
production of Jason Robert Brown’s beautiful musical
revue, Songs for a New World. Her recent acting
credits include Oliver!, Lettice and Lovage and For the
Pleasure of Seeing Her Again, in which she played… a mom-who-knows-everything.

   Sarah Penner - Rosebud Theatre - Guest Artist  

Sarah Penner
Sarah is thrilled to return to the Opera House stage
this winter as the pianist in Rosebud’s Gifts of the Magi. You may also have heard her tinkle the ivories in last summer’s show Oliver! When not in Rosebud, Sarah makes her home up in Grande Prairie where she works
as an accounting technician and music theory teacher.
Among other things, Sarah treasures her times in Rosebud as a chance to work with great artists and to explore God’s gift of music to her.

    Alysa van Haastert
Coming from Rimbey almost four years ago, Alysa is nearing her completion of the Mentorship Acting Programme at Rosebud School of the Arts. She has had great opportunities with Rosebud Theatre as Elsa Barlow in The Road to Mecca and Aunt Bessie in A Christmas in Wales; as well with Rosebud School of the Arts in Troy Women and The Giant’s Heart.
This season you will see Alysa as Kate Terry in A Bright Particular Star and Mona in Queen Milli of Galt. Alysa is blessed by Rosebud, family and dear friends and she wishes you a wonderful experience and God’s joy.

 Amy Burks
Amy is thrilled to be part of Rosebud! She is currently in the Mentorship Acting program. Originally from Ontario, she has studied theatre in England, Scotland and now Canada! She received a Foundation Degree in Community Theatre Studies from East 15 Acting School. Past credits include Wizard of Oz, Duchess of Malfi, Wait Wait Bo Bait, Not My Cup of Tea, Four Elements, Top Girls, The Revenge of the Space Pandas, Triumph of Love and numerous devised works.

Angela Gillis
Angela is in her second year of study here at Rosebud School of the Arts. Originally from Fort McMurray and most recently from Sherwood Park she has always had a flair for the arts. She appeared in Rosebud School of the Arts production of The Revenge of the Space Pandas on the Studio
Stage in 2010. Angela is the assistant stage manager for Triumph of Love which opens on the Studio Stage this spring.

    Cassia Schramm
Cassia is thrilled to be a part of Rosebud Theatre’s 2011 Season. She is originally from Olds, and is in her fourth and final year of the Mentorship Acting Programme with Rosebud School of the Arts. She is so grateful for this community of artists who are a great blessing and inspiration to her. Acting credits include The Giant’s Heart and Troy Women (Rosebud School of the Arts), Man of La Mancha, A Christmas in Wales, Oliver! and The Secret Garden (Rosebud Theatre) and The Canadian Badlands Passion Play.

    Conrad Belau
Conrad is originally from Outlook, Saskatchewan and is now entering his third year in the Mentorship Acting Programme with Rosebud School of the Arts. Previous credits include The Keeper (RSA), The Secret Garden (Rosebud Theatre) and You Are Here (Shram-A-Lam Productions).  He is excited to be a part of this up-coming season in A Bright Particular Star and Jake and the Kid.  A special thanks to his family and the Murphy clan.

Emma Cobb
From the small town of Bragg Creek, Alberta, Emma came to the even smaller town of Rosebud and is now in her third year at Rosebud School of the Arts in the Mentorship Acting Programme. Past credits include The Canadian Badlands Passion Play, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Keeper and The Revenge of the Space Pandas (Rosebud School of the Arts) andYou Are Here (Shram-a-lam Productions). She enjoys dancing, baking, reading and would like to visit New Zealand.

    Heather Pattengale
Heather is excited and grateful to be taking part in Rosebud Theatre’s 2011 Season. A graduating student of the RSA Mentorship Acting Programme, Heather hails from Cambridge, Ontario, where she previously completed a BA in Peace & Conflict Studies and Fine & Performing Arts at the University of Waterloo.  She now lives in Rosebud with her handsome and talented husband, Paul Zacharias and their talkative pet budgie,Chaucer. You may have seen Heather recently in Rosebud Theatre’s The Secret Garden, We Won’t Pay! We Won’t Pay!, Mary’s Wedding, and Fiddler on the Roof.

    Jesse Anderson
Jesse Anderson is part of the second-year class in the Mentorship Acting Programme. Previous acting credits include The Revenge of the Space Pandas, The Canadian Badlands Passion Play and A Place of Many Rivers, a performance art show that debuted at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival this past summer. She is passionate about painting, dance, guitar, acting and baking. “The greatest miracle is the revealing of a human soul.”
 
                 
     

Laura Gillespie
Laura grew up in Camrose (not Canmore), Alberta.  She has always loved music and theatre which, after high school, led her to a summer volunteering as an actor with The Canadian Badlands Passion Play. It was there that she first heard about Rosebud School of the Arts. Laura thoroughly enjoyed her role as The Retainer in RSA’s production of The Revenge of the Space Pandas and is looking forward to her role in this spring’s The Triumph of Love.

Lennette Randall
Lennette is a third-year student at Rosebud School of the Arts. She is grateful to work at Rosebud Theatre with a director, a space and scene partners that are new to her. Most recently from the UK, this African princess is adjusting well to Canadian winters (with fewer “I hate
winter”complaints). She is often seen breezing around the hamlet on her bike, but mind that she does not run into you, she is accident prone.  Past acting credits include Mary Magdalene in The Canadian Badlands Passion Play, Snoopy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Havilah in The Keeper.

    Matt St. Jean
Matt St. Jean is a second-year Mentorship Acting student. He performed the role of Buffy in RSA’s production of The Revenge of the Space Pandas in 2010.  This spring he will be portraying the role of Harlequin in Triumph Of Love on the Studio Stage. Previous acting credits include Of Mice and Men and Wasted Angels. Matt performs stand-up comedy at “Outlaws” in Rosedale and ccasionally in Rosebud. Matt hopes to do more comedy work across Canada this summer.  He looks forward to seeing you in the audience in a theatre or club near you.
    Natalie Blanchard
Natalie was born and raised in Drayton Valley, Alberta.  Natalie is fourth-year student in the Mentorship Dramatic Arts Programme at Rosebud School of the Arts. Natalie is thrilled to be a part of the 2011 Season as assistant stage manager for A Bright Particular Star and to work with her beautiful classmates. Assistant stage management credits include We Won’t Pay! We Won’t Pay! and Man of La Mancha (Rosebud Theatre).
Stage management credits include The Revenge of the Space Pandas (Rosebud School of the Arts), plus several students final projects. Natalie would like to send out her love to her amazing family.

Natalie is a second-year student in Rosebud, and is thrilled to be part of the Acting Mentorship Programme. This energetic young woman from Lethbridge loves to ask questions and is grateful to be in Rosebud, where she is encouraged to do so. Aside from acting, Natalie loves playing her guitar and writing songs, and on a sunny day you might see her out for a run in the beautiful country hills. Natalie’s first role in Rosebud was Binky in the student production of The Revenge of the Space Pandas in 2010. She looks forward to new challenges in 2011.

    Sarah Byran
Sarah is a second-year student at Rosebud School of the Arts. She is passionate about playwriting and directing and, though she has little training, set design. Sarah is a creative spirit with a wild side, ready and willing to experiment with many different types of theatre. She is incredibly excited to continue on the path to her future, one that will, if she has any say, include a lot of theatre.

Sienna is incredibly pleased to be on the Opera House Stage once again in the spring production of A Bright Particular Star. Originally from Edmonton, Sienna is excited to be mounting her final project in April, Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown, and with that completing her time at Rosebud School of the Arts. Previous credits include The Secret Garden, Oliver!, Man of La Mancha and Troy Women. She sends her love out to her family and friends!
